Reality? BAH!

So my life is totally and utterly beyond repair at the moment. But as Woody Allen opined- “Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering – and it’s all over much too soon.” Time to leave reality far far faaaaaaaar behind. No point fighting it time to take a couple of Valium and wait for the bailiffs to arrive. Just look at all those pretty shuriken people!

Its time to write a novel about ninja space monkeys and genetically modified shark/tiger/polar bear/iguana/platypus/box jellyfish hybrids or some such.  (you heard it here first folks!)  I’m even seriously considering playing the national lottery… how pathetic is that? How does the national lottery prayer go again? “If I win I promise to donate 10% to the Church, 10% to the poor, start a charity, build a business and tithe its profits to the Church, just please don’t let me die in poverty! (oh and a sex change would be nice too)”. Sorry no that sounds suspiciously like back to reality!

Aaaaah Acedia, the sin that describes me to a T, I mean that’s complicated by being incredibly depressed, but yes. Acedia is worse than Sloth in my opinion. Sloth is just laziness, everyone understands laziness, just chilling out, enjoying life.  Acedia is the belief that nothing is worth doing at all. It is an affront to humility because we are created in the image of God and have Jesus as our redeemer. If salvation history was a tagline from a cosmetics advert, then the Bible could be summerised as “because you’re worth it”. So yes, bad Acedia bad!

So in an effort to raise the tone, take a look at this, such a touching memorial to people who died so long ago. It brings a tear to the eye. Reminds me of Terry Pratchett’s Nightwatch. “If you need to ask why we wear the lilac YOU WEREN’T THERE”.
